Block Party Quilt

One of the booths at our Block Party this year was to make a quilt square. Everyone who made a square, got their name in the drawing to win the quilt we made with the squares.

The technique is so easy and really fun! It would be great for a baby shower, a wedding gift or a family reunion. All you need is a square of 100% cotton fabric (we used muslin) and some crayons. Any crayons will do. Color the square with bright, bold colors and keep away from the edges for seam allowances. Then take a second piece of fabric and lay it over the top of the finished square. Iron for 10 seconds on low heat, keeping the iron moving. Then quilt as you like.

I washed one of the squares and it faded a bit but still looked ok. I figure they are more of a keepsake quilt anyway and probably wouldn't get washed much. Try it, it's fun!

I finished the quilt today and it turned out great!

Driving and Dishcloths

Thanks to ginger (see The Leingangs Recommend on our family blog), I was able to do some crocheting on the trip to MN. I made 17 dishcloths on the road!

I love crocheted dishcloths and now I have plenty of them to last for a while. I may even post some eventually to sell or give some away as gifts.

Here's how they turned out. They aren't all there because I already gave some away. I especially like the one made out of all the remnants.

Ada's Quilt

I bought this outfit for our niece Ada, who is due July 4th. It was the inspiration for her quilt that I finished just this evening. It turned out pretty cute.

Redwork Ready

I finally finished the redwork quilt and I love it!

It turned out really cute and now it is all wrapped up and ready for the baby shower on Saturday!

Hooded Towels

I made a hooded baby towel for my sister-in-law's baby shower. It's one I made for the boys when they were babies, but I have improved the design A LOT since then.

I never really liked those hooded towels you were supposed to use on babies. They're paper thin, too small after 6 months or so and the hood is in the corner rather than the center where they should be. The boys used theirs until they were in preschool!

So, I made my own...

The pictures aren't very good at showing what it looks like.

I added a fabric strip to the edge of the towel and the washcloth. Lined the washcloth with soft flannel, sewed up one edge and sewed it to the edge of the towel.

I think I am going to make one up for the store and see how it does.

Fun With A New Pattern

My friend Kate brought me the sweetest pattern the last time she came to visit and I finally made one.

I also have to thank my sister Theresa for the perfect black handles to go on it. And my sister-in-law Amy for the very cute vintage buttons.

All together, we made a very nice bag!

Baby On The Go

I started a quilt today using the "Going On 20" pattern. I modified it to have smaller blocks, but I think this one will turn out ok.

I love the browns and blues! (the brown is not as red as it seems in the picture)
